Since the Betty Ford Clinic became the go-to place for celebrities to overcome their issues with addiction, inpatient detox centers have steadily gained popularity with the wealthy and the troubled. California's latest in emotional immersion therapy is West Hollywood's Divorce Detox Retreat Center. The facility offers three options for the detox process: a 90-day retreat, an ongoing group and individual treatment. The center's founder, Allison Pescosolido, is a relationship expert with degrees in psychology and public policy plus certifications in life coaching and grief recovery. She has appeared on TV and radio and in newspapers and magazines dispensing expert relationship advice.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM ADDRESS?
Divorce Detox is a process of sorting through the emotional aftermath of divorce and coping in a healthier way. The process addresses topics including:
- Understanding why your marriage ended
- Learning to establish a healthy working relationship with your ex
- Learning how to be an effective single parent
- Shifting away from negativity
- Rebuilding your life and preparing for the future
Participants in the Divorce Detox program have the opportunity to vent their negative emotions and gain support and insight from others in a similar position.
WHAT IF I CANNOT DO A RETREAT?
Most people are not in a position to take off and immerse themselves in this healing process, but it provides some important points for all divorcing parties to consider. Divorce is a traumatic experience, and people tend to neglect their emotional needs during the process. If you are recently separated or divorced, take some time to regain a sense of peace. Join a support group, find a therapist or allow your close friends to listen to how you really feel. If you have children, it is important to set an example by taking care of your needs in addition to tending to theirs. Most important, bear in mind that you are not always going to feel this way.
If you are considering separation or divorce, speak to a compassionate divorce attorney who can look out for your financial interests and the needs of your children.
